 Mama & Princess

We are Livin’ Life, Losin’ Sanity, and Lookin’ Forward — training a special needs princess.  Leah Rose was diagnosed with  Freeman  Sheldon Syndrome aka Whistling Face Syndrome, Arthrogryposis, Glenoid Hypoplasia, and a midline cleft in the soft palate (repaired Sep ‘04).

Please be patient while I finish updating this blog.  I am transferring my journals from the original web site.  Some of the posts contain my notes for me to finish.  Feel free to browse, but please do visit again and hopefully I will have all of the posts finished soon. Start here for the First Entry

I was browsing through my daily reads on my Google Reader this morning, when I noticed one of my keyword searches for Freeman Sheldon Syndrome brought up my blog.   When I clicked on it, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my blog has been showcased last week in the Blogs Around Town – Middle Georgia website.  It’s not a big deal, but thought it was interesting.

I’m Not Hannah - The World’s Most Imperfect Mother Spouts Off is a mom of a child with Asperger’s Syndrome.  She has a unique, funny and realistic writing style.  I especially loved her post about the uses of saran wrap.  This will definitely be one of my regular reads.

postheadericon Spring Fling 2009

Roses

We got up early on Saturday morning to attend Leah Rose’s preschool Spring Fling.  It was rainy and dreary outside, but she had a blast anyway.  She raced the big girls twice on the scooters and “won”.  Her little legs were flying and she was concentrating very hard.  The volunteers said it was very difficult to race forwards, and it was easier going backwards, but it still made their legs hurt.

Leah Rose loves to have her nails painted and she immediately spotted the nail shop station.

Her favorite of all is the jumping castles and inflatables from Kathy’s Rock.  She ran from one thing to another for almost 2 hours solid.

We made her take a break to eat a bite of pizza.  Her teacher, Mrs. E, was there working at the brownie station and Leah bought a brownie that she made.  Then another one of her teachers, Mrs. H, said she had to buy one of hers.  Leah went over to tell them their brownies were very good.  Mrs. H conned Leah into telling Mrs E her brownies were better than Mrs. E’s.  And she did it, with a straight face too.  She had no clue what was going on, but Mrs. E took it well.  Leah Rose says “I’m Too Much Princess for You”.

Too Much Princess for You

I made an afghan several months ago and donated it to the PTO for the silent auction and when I checked it before we left, there was one bid from the principal for $16.  Not too bad.  There was only one other crocheted afghan there, and it was in shades of brown.  I think mine was prettier.

Saturday was my birthday, and I had a great day.  You can read my birthday posts here and here.  All in all, it was a great day for us.

This was an emotional moment for me.  Leah was born in Fort Walton Beach by c-section, and she was transported to the Sacred Heart NICU in Pensacola the next morning.  I was stuck at the Fort Walton Beach hospital for 3 days, so this was my first real “mommy & baby” moment.

AFTER

We went to the eye doctor 3-1/2 weeks ago, and he said her perscription had changed slightly.  So I decided to go ahead and let her get new glasses.  The wire framed glasses have a chip in the lens.  I can’t believe it has taken this long to make the lenses, but they told me at Vision Savers that because her lens are so small, the lab was having trouble getting them to fit properly in the frames.

She loves the new glasses.  I hate em, with a passion.  The color is okay, they are a little purple.  But I hate the shape.  I have hated that shape since I started wearing glasses in the 3rd grade.  But she had to have the purple plastic frames.  So be it.  I’ll have to live with them.

I took this picture last night.  Leah was so happy that her dinosaur egg hatched.  She learned about dinosaurs in school last week.  I had been asked to send a bar of ivory soap to school and I figured they were going to carve little shapes in it.  Silly me.  She came home from preschool on Friday with a ziploc bag smeared with soap, and it was in an oval shape.  I had no clue what it was and she finally told me it was a dinosaur egg and she picked a pink one.  The light bulb still hadn’t gone off.  She kept watching it, waiting for it to hatch.  I finally picked it up one day over the weekend, and realized there was something INSIDE it.  I could see little dinosaur feet sticking out, pink dinosaur feet.  I let her play with it on the tub on Sunday night, and wouldn’t you know?  That dinosaur hatched, and it was pink.

I usually take pictures using my HP Photosmart M415 digital camera, but I got a new camera, a Canon FS100 digital video camcorder, for Christmas.  I’ve been taking a few videos with it, but I just haven’t quite caught on how to use the settings yet.  Especially taking inside photos, they always seem to come out very dark and not very clear.  I took these today with the new camera.  She looks so cute in her green, almost like a leprechan, and almost as mischevious.

 Magic Marker Monday

Leah Rose is a very talented artist, and she loves to draw.

Saturday was her babysitter’s 18th birthday, and she drew this picture for her birthday.

Here is a strawberry that she drew this morning.

This is for her Grandmother.   She called it “Amazing Grace” because her Grandmother sang “Amazing Grace” to her when she was a baby.

Here are some other drawings that I found in her Wonder Color drawing pad that she has made over the past several months.
