12/2 hearing test
12/15 my colonoscopy
12/28 pediatrician
Leah is progressing very well. You wouldn’t know she had ever had surgery and been in the hospital for 16 days. She is growing and developing normally. Her crawling skills have improved, although she does crawl with her head down. I believe it is due to her short neck, but the therapist isn’t sure why she can’t raise her head when crawling. She is pulling herself up in a standing position and “cruises” along the furniture. She has yet to let go and realize that she can stand by herself.
She has been fitted for a brace for her right foot and wears it for part or most of the day. Finding a shoe to fit over it that won’t be too big for her to use has been a challenge. It is difficult to put shoes on her to begin with because she continues to flex her foot and curl her toes under very tightly.
Her hands are doing very well. She is grasping and playing with toys and using her fingers. Even with the limitation of her right thumb, she can pick up very small items after the first or second try. Her sign language skills are slowly improving. She understands and uses the signs appropriately…more, bottle, eat, thank you, please… are the ones used most often.
She is going through a teething spurt with the molars and she gets a little cranky in the evening.
As far as food goes, that still is a no go. She doesn’t like baby food. I’ve tried all brands and different levels. She doesn’t like rice cereal or juice. She likes to play with a sippy cup, but she doesn’t like to drink from it. She does like mashed potatoes and banana pudding if I feed it to her from my plate on my finger to her mouth. I’m so paranoid about giving her anything. I’m afraid she is going to choke. I have got to learn to loosen up a little bit. This week my mother and I gave her a french fry, some chocolate frosty, and a little bit of diet coke. I’ve fed her tea, juice and watered down coca cola through a straw. I did find some little finger foods that melts in your mouth, and she will eat a few at a time, but I think she would much rather play with it.
