SINGLE AND UNEXPECTEDLY PREGNANT
AT 41 YEARS OLD
On January 27, 2003, my whole world was
turned upside down. I went to the doctor for my annual visit, and she
came into the room and announced... "Well, it looks like you have a
positive pregnancy test." Needless to say, I was devastated. My
divorce had only been final four months before, and I had met someone
new in December. This new man in my life seemed wonderful, but
unfortunately, as time passed, I was discovering he was not as
wonderful as he presented himself to be. I made the decision that my
baby and I were much better off without him, and I sent him packing.

So here I am, single and unexpectedly
pregnant at 41 years old. This is not where I wanted to be at this
time in my life. I already have a beautiful 15 year old son and I
have never had a desire for more children. I find myself worrying
constantly about finances, my exhaustion, and my guilt over bringing a
child into this world under these circumstances. My friends are all
very encouraging and very supportive, and they tell me things will
work out. I can only pray that they are right.

From day one, my doctor has been very
supportive. I couldn't have asked for a more kinder, compassionate
person to trust during this time. It was my first visit to her when
she delivered the news to me, and immediately she was aware that this
was not something I was expecting. I can only say that I could not
have made it this far without her support and kindness. I will always
be grateful to her and her staff for trying to make things easier for
me.
